Christmas Survey...

Since I am taking a break for the holidays I thought I would at least make my presence known. I found this survey online and it made me smile, so I am sharing my answers with you. Maybe it will stir up a few fun memories of your own. I hope you have a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!! ~Kell

1. Egg nog or hot chocolate? Neither really, but if I had to choose I would say hot chocolate.

2. Does Santa wrap presents or just sit them under the tree? He wraps them. And sadly he uses our paper :)

3. Colored lights on tree/house or white? White on our tree. I love how clean they look! And for our house we use hanging icicle lights topped with large bulb red and white lights. I think the look is very classy.

4. Do you hang mistletoe? No, but I should...then I could steal more kisses from my hubby ♥

5. When do you put your decorations up? If it were up to me...before Thanksgiving. That's a lot of work to only enjoy for one month. I better let my husband think that he has say in something as far as decorating goes, though, so we start to put up our decoration right after Thanksgiving :)

6. What is your favorite holiday dish? Really, I have to choose just one. That's impossible! For those of you that know me...you know my love affair with food! If I had to say, it would have to be the year we spent Christmas in Colorado with my mom and dad and they made prime rib. It really was the yummiest prime rib EVER!

7. Favorite holiday memory as a child? Christmas Eve and morning at my grandparents home with all the family there!!

8. When and how did you learn the truth about Santa? As sad as it is...I don't remember. Guess it wasn't traumatic!

9. Do you open a gift on Christmas Eve? Our kiddos always get new jammies on Christmas Eve. It was something my husband's family did growing up and continues now with our family.

10. How do you decorate your Christmas tree? Our tradition is to buy an ornament each year that represents something each of us has done or accomplished that year. So our tree is decorated with memories! And a little added fluff like berry twigs and what have you.

11. Snow! Love it or dread it? Seeing as how I grew up in Utah you would be surprised to hear that I DREAD IT!! I have lived in Arizona for almost 6 years now and the longer I am here the more I hate the snow. True story!!

12. Can you ice skate? Yes. But not well.

13. Do you remember your favorite gift? A "real" baby doll. That thing looked just like a real baby. I carried it everywhere with me! Even The Old Spaghetti Factory where our waiter asked if he could use it to play a joke on his friends. He carried it into the kitchen where we heard screams only to find out that he had pretended to drop it and everyone freaked out. That's how real it looked. Man I loved that thing! It even smelled like baby powder.

14. What's the most important thing about the holidays for you? FAMILY!!!

15. What is your favorite holiday dessert? Really, again with the food? I can't just pick one! Especially dessert!! I can tell you this though...fruit cake would not be anywhere near my list of top contenders!!

16. What is your favorite holiday tradition? Buying the ornaments for my family. I love decorating our tree each year and thinking about the significance of each one. They hold such fun memories. I also love SCONES on Christmas morning. My Grandparents started that tradition and our little family has adopted it.

17. What tops your tree? A rusted star

18. Which do you prefer: giving or receiving? GIVING!! Especially for Angel Tree's!!!

19. Candy canes: yuck or yum? Plain and simple...YUCK!

20. Favorite Christmas show? Christmas Vacation and A Christmas Story...I have to watch both EVERY YEAR. They hold a lot of fun memories for me :)

21. Saddest Christmas song? I'll Be Home for Christmas. Being away from loved ones is so hard!

22. What is your favorite Christmas song? Christmas Canon by Trans-Siberian Orchestra. Our kiddos listen to it over and over and over and I LOVE IT!!

9 Drawer Drexel Dresser & Mirror...SOLD

I have a beautiful solid wood dresser by Drexel and a matching mirror that I just finished in the most gorgeous color. I think the lighting is off in my house because the pictures do not do it justice. It is so deep and rich and I must say...a new favorite of mine!! It is called "Sensual Jade" by Valspar.

This piece has been given a lot of love by me! I started by sanding it down, painting it, sanding it again and waxing the body for a protective finish. I originally painted the top of the dresser the same color but because of some damage that was done from the previous owners it truly looked like crap. Since it wasn't smooth like I had anticipated, I thought I would add a Moroccan stencil that would give it character. Well...that just looked worse...which is never good for a person with OCD! So I got online and looked up how to replace a dresser top. That gave me the fabulous idea to just turn the existing one over. It was perfect, no damage whatsoever. In fact, it was so pretty that I decided to stain it rather than paint it. I thought it was too much color with the mirror matching as well. It now wears a dark walnut finish with a coat of Polycrylic to protect it. GLAMOROUS I must say!

This dresser measures 63.75 in. wide x 20 in. deep x 32 in. tall. It features 9 drawers all of which are dove tailed and on medal tracks with ball bearings giving them nice smooth movement. 2 drawers measure ~ 20 in. x 15.5 in. and sink 3.75 in. 2 measure ~ 20 in. x 15.5 in. and sink 6.5 in. 2 measure ~ 20in. x 15.5 in. and sink 7 in. and the middle drawers are 15.5 in. x 13.5 in. and sink 4 in., 6.5 in. and 7 in. Lots of storage space for any need. One drawer has a jewelry holder that can slide back and forth and is removable and 2 drawers feature a built in divider so you can better organize your belongings.

Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or would like to set up an appointment to come and see it. It is a nice solid piece that is sure to last for years. The mirror alone weighs a TON! Thanks for looking and Happy Holidays! ~Kell

Bunk beds...custom order

I had a client bring me these really fun bunk beds that didn't look to fun to begin with. The previous owners had started a painting job that obviously tuckered them out {see the pictures below}. It appeared that they took on this job using a paint brush...OUCH! NO ONE would want that job :) So they were able to score them for a pretty good deal, but really wanted them refinished for their girls! I think they'll have two happy kiddos on Christmas morning when they wake up to these "Seafoam" beauties...

Enjoy your day ~Kell

So I ask you this...if you have a free moment please leave me a comment and tell me how you came across my blog. I love to hear from you and promise to answer any questions you have. Ribbon back chairs...custom job

So I had a client bring me the most beautiful ribbon back chairs. They were old to say the least...you know, the "awesome" kind of old with key screws and a routing job that furniture nowa days just doesn't have! Gorgeous!

But they lacked a little something. A little something that I was able to provide them...and that was a makeover. I painted them a beautiful shade of white with slight gray undertones and distressed the heck out of them! Shabby, shabby...my favorite! Then I sanded them and waxed them giving them a super smooth finish that will survive life with a family of small kiddos. We also reupholstered them in a fabric that she brought to me that will match her brand new dining room.

They turned out so pretty...have a look ~Kell

Lovin' me some chevron...

I bought this awesome retro dresser a little while ago and could not resist painting it with chevron stripes. It just had that feel! I am in lo♥e with chevron stripes in case you couldn't tell!

Well my sweet son has been living with a changing table / dresser in his room for the last few {too many} years so I thought it had better become his. He is quite happy and I must say that I am too! Mission accomplished!!

Hope you enjoy your weekend ~Kell

Come on...

Well folks, I should really be fired!! In this line of business it's ALL about the "after" shot, which I have been HORRIBLE at! Really...how could I not have after shots of my pieces?!? Because I am a slacker...that's why. I get so excited for my clients to see their pieces sometimes that I call them over before I have the chance.
Lesson learned...I will try harder...I promise!!

That said, here are some before and during shots of a few pieces I have completed...

I got this cute twin bed from a friend of mine who is in interior design. It belongs to a client of hers and I thank her for the business!!!

I painted it black for her. What a cute little rustic bed it was and man did it look beautiful once it was finished! {Wish I had a picture!!!!!}

I also had the chance to finish this coffee table for a friend. It was such a fun piece.

I painted it a beautiful putty shade, distressed it for a fun farmhouse feel and put a polycrilic finish on it! {again...wish I had a picture!!!!!} Notice a theme?

I made a "mental note to self" that I will not let this happen again! SHEESH!!

Well, hope you're enjoying your "after Halloween hysteria" {a.k.a. sugar rush} because I'm sure enjoying mine! ~Kell

Ornate Tallboy Dresser...SOLD

Yee-haw...I finally finished the last of my tallboy dressers. This one is quite different from the others because of its ornate wood carvings. It is so classy!!

I sanded the piece, painted it a creamy white color called "Comet Dust" by Valspar, distressed it for the shabby look that I ♥ so much, sanded it again and finished it off with a coat of wax.

This solid wood tallboy has 5 drawers {all dove tailed}, 2 of which are hidden behind its beautifully carved doors as well as 3 cubbies to store all of your belongings. All together the piece measures a whopping 60 in. tall x 37.5 in. wide x 18.25 in. deep. The top drawer is 29.5 in. long x 14.25 in. deep and sinks 4.75 in. The 3 cubbies are 15 in. deep x 11 in. tall and vary between 9 and 11 in. wide. The 2 middle drawers are 28 in. wide x 13.5 in. deep and one sinks 3.5 in. while the other sinks 4.5 in. And the 2 bottom drawers measure 32.25 in. wide x 14.5 in. deep and sink 7.5 in. This dresser really offers a lot of extra storage!

Sadly the pictures don't do it justice. I would love to show it to you in person! If you would like to set up an appointment or have any questions please feel free to e-mail me at homeonharmony@gmail.com.

Hope you're having a great day! Thanks for stopping by ~Kell

Very Hip Tallboy Dresser...SOLD

Ladies & Gents,

I finished the funnest {not a word, I am sure} piece today. It really isn't fair that I love my pieces as much as I do because I don't want to part with any of them. But at least I get the satisfaction of knowing that the special person that purchases them will get just as much joy from them as I do in making them!!

That said, I am happy you stopped by, because you will fall in love with this little gem, I assure you!

I found this tallboy dresser with the most amazing hardware I have ever seen and HAD TO HAVE IT! I wanted to paint it a fun color to play up its unique characteristics and had a peacocky {again...not a word. We might have to call those "Kellieisms"}teal in mind...so here she is...ready to move into your space...

You'll probably remember her from her before pictures

Cute hardware...huh?!?

Well here she is after being sanded, primed, painted, distressed, sanded again and waxed...

Isn't she gorgeous??

If you're interested, you'll like to know that this piece is solid wood, has 5 drawers {3 of which are covered by those amazing doors} all dove tailed and STURDY! I always say "they don't make furniture like they used to" and QUALITY is what I mean. This dresser will last you for YEARS!! It stands 50.5 in. tall x 40 in. wide x 18.5 in. deep. The 2 bottom drawers are 14.5 in. deep x 35 in. wide and go down 6 in. and the top 3 drawers measure 13.5 in. deep x 32 in. wide and go down 7 in.

Well peeps, it is way past my 8:00 bed time...yes, I am that old :)

Stunning Tallboy Dresser...SOLD

I have a tallboy dresser that I have completely refinished that is absolutely stunning. I started off by sanding the entire piece, painting it a beautiful shade of gray that would match any decor because of its tone, distressed it for a shabby feel, sanded it again to give it a nice smooth finish and completed the look with a coat of wax for a durable finish. This solid wood piece has all of its original hardware except for its handles {because it was missing one backer} so I added some new crystal looking pulls that finish it off!

This dresser stands 41 in. long x 48 in. tall x 18 in. deep.
It has 5 dove tail drawers; 2 of which are hidden behind the doors that measure 35.25 in. long x 13.25 in. deep and go down 5.5 in. and 3 that measure 34 in. long x 14.25 in. deep and go down 5.5 in. {one even has wooden dividers adding 3 compartments for organizing your belongings}

Hope you enjoy your weekend ~Kell

Yours for the taking...

Ok everyone, I have a few pieces that I will be finishing in the next few weeks and thought I would put them out there to see if anyone is interested in a custom finish.

If you are, feel free to get a hold of me and we can work out the details. I will be M.I.A. for about a week, so if you don't hear from me right away, don't fret. I will be back in action by October 11th.

Piece #1:
Solid wood armoire
5 Drawers
Dove tail wood work
Perfect condition
I was thinking this piece would be awesome in a teal or peacock greenish/blue that would make those original hardware pulls really pop!!

Piece #2:
Awesome retro dresser
Solid wood
Dove tail wood work
Great condition, works perfectly
The natural age shows which will be fun to play up with its finish.
I was thinking a trendy pattern would be fun to add to the face of this dresser since it is flat. Check out my chevron dresser to see what I mean!

Piece #3:
Ornate armoire
Solid wood
5 drawers plus 3 cubbies
Dove tail wood work
Great working condition
This piece would be very classy in a white or cream finish to play up the beautifully carved wood details!

My suggestions are just that...suggestions! They would be awesome in any variety of finishes. If you have something in mind, let me know! It's always fun to see what other people think! Thanks for stopping by ~Kell

Darling set of night stands...SOLD

The client that bought my large dining room table was also in the market for some night stands. I found these darling ones on Craigslist which she purchased and had me finish in black.

They came with a beautiful wood stain which was, well, outdated. Painting them brought them back to life and will now match the decor in her home.

She is planning on replacing the hardware seeing as how one of them was missing the backer. Here is a little peek of the before and after. ~Kell

Finished...SOLD

Well, I finally finished that BEAUTIFUL dining room table and 8 chairs this last week. But I am super sad that I did not get a complete "after" picture. Only in pieces! Boo-hoo! I guess something is better than nothing...right?!?

My client wanted the table top finished in a dark walnut stain, and the base and chairs painted black. We then picked out a fun and trendy chevron fabric in a grey and cream finish that I must say married the classy traditional curves of this piece quite well. The finished product is absolutely GORGEOUS!!

Have a peek ~Kell

9 Drawer Dresser...SOLD

Good morning all,

I just finished the coolest dresser. It is a vintage trendy piece from the 60's or 70's so I kept that feeling by painting it gray, and I must say it was a perfect fit!

I started by sanding the entire piece, then I painted it Valspar's "Mark Twain House Ombra Gray" which is stunning. After it dried, I distressed it, sanded it again for a very smooth finish, covered it with a coat of protective wax and reapplied all of the original drawer pulls. STUNNING!!

This piece it quite versatile and could be used as:
~A dresser :)
~An entertainment center / console for your TV
~A sideboard, buffet or credenza
~A changing table for your nursery or
~An entry way table as a catch all
The possibilities are endless!

This solid wood piece measures 66 in. long x 31.5 in. tall x 18.5 in. deep and features 9 dove tail drawers that are 18.5 in. long x 14.5 in. deep and go down 5.5 in.

Hope you're having a good one ~Kell
