A gift for my mom...

My mom has been one of my biggest cheerleaders as I have embarked on the road to refinishing furniture. She always tells me that if we didn't live in different states she would buy my pieces...thanks mom!! Well this year for Christmas she is getting just that. Last time she was down we found this beautiful piece for her that she wanted me to paint white and distress. I am not going to show the after pictures until she has seen it on Christmas but for now you can see the before. It is such a gorgeous piece with bowed front drawers and rounded details! I can't wait for her to see it and to show you after the New Year!! Until then, Happy Holidays!! ~Kell

Flash forward:

Well, it is now January and we safely delivered this piece to our parents in Utah for Christmas! {It helped to have drawers to stuff full of Christmas presents so the littles didn't see them, hehehe!} Without further ado...I give you the "after" pictures!...

Still in the works...

I have been wanting to make an ottoman out of a coffee table for some time now. Every once in a while when I'm looking at other pieces I will run across one, but it is never the right size or style. And then one day I hit the jackpot! I found a solid wood Bernhardt coffee table that was just the right size as well as style for the spot it will adorn!! My plan was to paint it and then make a top out of the same fabric I did my King Louie chairs in. Well, I am sure I am not the first person to admit that any project I want to do for myself always gets put on the back burner...and of course that will have to be the case here too...but at least I was able to paint it! I am loving having a large table in our family room but can't wait to finish the top {which more than likely will be a long ways out...but at least I am taking steps in the right direction...right?!} I'll keep you posted on the finished product when it happens but for now here is the transformation! I am super excited about it!!

Merry Christmas & Happy New Year ~Kell

Happy Day...

Well, I am happy to announce that after several weeks of working on some pieces for a client I am finally finished! I think she is going to be so happy because this has been a long time coming...truly. She dropped them off to me in mid-October and I just wrapped them up today. Normally it doesn't take me that long to complete a project, but in my defense there were 6 pieces and 3 of them needed to be stripped and sanded down to the bare wood for me to even begin. Little did we know that the product that once adorned them stuck like glue...even better than glue. I used three coats of {a very potent} stripper and still had to sand those babies down! I guess we know what products to use in the future if we want them to survive the end of the world....hehehe! I am so excited to show you these pieces so here we go...

First we have a long dresser or buffet/credenza if you will~
I love this piece and probably because of its color. I am drawn to brightly painted pieces so when she told me she wanted it to be orange I did a little happy dance. This one took a while because all the nooks and crannies had to be sanded and she wanted the original knob holes filled and new ones drilled for the darling knobs that are on it now. Don't they look amazing?! I'd say it was worth the wait!

Then there were these bad boys...the culprits of why it took me nearly 2 months to finish her pieces. These little guys were determined to keep their original coats but I wasn't having it. They were stripped {a bunch}, sanded {even more}, de-glossed, primed, painted, sanded again and had a coat of Poly applied to give them a long life. I also replaced their backer board since my client wanted the back of her pieces painted as well. Because it was not real wood it can't be stripped or sanded. Again, worth the wait! I can't wait to see them with their drawers in~

And yet another one that was stripped. You can tell from the before picture that it was a bright white and she was going for a color slightly more subdued tone. What a fun book case this will be~

And finally we have the matching end table to the long buffet and a headboard. I love how they all turned out and am happy that she finally gets them back to enjoy them for the holidays~

More than likely I won't be around until after the New Year. Thanks for dropping in! I hope you are all able to slow down and enjoy the beautiful holiday season! ~Kell
