I LOVE old furniture. I know I've said it a thousand times and I will continue to say it...THEY DON'T MAKE FURNITURE THE WAY THEY USED TO!! They don't make anything the way they used to for that matter. Things nowa days are made to break so you have to replace them sooner...and that my friends is why OLD IS BETTER {in my humble opinion}!!! Every single piece I have ever finished was built to last a lifetime. Sometimes they don't look like they have much life left in them when I get my hands on them...but they always leave me with a whole lot of life left. Sometimes you have to see past their age to appreciate their bones.
This week I have been able to refinish 3 dressers...HOLY COW!! I haven't accomplished that much since I can't tell you when! I think the realazation that summer is soon upon us and my garage is full of pieces that I dread working on in the dead of heat {115* to be exact} is getting to me...hehehe! I'm just glad I have had some spare time because that seldom happens.
One of the pieces I finished was this gorgeous ornate 5 drawer dresser. I can't even begin to tell you how much I adore the detail work on this one! It's wooden frame and dovetail drawers are exactly what I am talking about when I say older pieces are built to LAST! In all, this piece stands 48" tall x 36" long x 18.5" deep. It has 5 drawers that are 31.75" long x 13.5" deep, three of which sink 6" and two that sink 5".
I sanded it, primed it, painted it Du Jour by Valspar, gave it a heavy distressing for a gorgeous shabby chic look, sanded it again for my signature smooth finish and topped it off with a coat of wax for protection. Please let me know if you have any questions...
Thanks for dropping by ~Kell
